Watering frequency depends on many different factors like temperature, humidity, what season it is, and what kind of potting medium the orchid is potted in. One person might water their Phals once a week while someone else waters theirs once every 2 weeks.
It is much more useful to get good culture sheets, like those found here or at
American Orchid Society, which will say things like "keep evenly moist" (for Phals) or "allow to dry between waterings" (Cattleyas) then just watch your plants and water when necessary.
It is important that you water (or not water) based on the orchid's cultural requirements and your observations of your orchid rather than someone telling you to water once or twice a week.
In other words, watering frequency is relative but a particular orchid's cultural requirements are not.
Just a note to other forum members: It is important to keep this in mind because while we may water our Phal every 2 weeks or so, doing so in different conditions, in different potting mix in a different part of the worlks (where it may be summer instead of winter) etc., etc. could result in the loss of an orchid. It's best not to confuse the orchid's cultural requirements with your particular method of delivering those needs.
