lots of new roots

Hi and hello to everyone, I am new here but seeking some advice. I have a Phal orchid which I have had for about four years, it always flowers but last year I felt it needed repotting. I repotted it in 'orchid bark compost' from my garden centre and since doing this it seems to have grown lots of new roots which are sticking up out of the pot, originally I thought they were new shoots! but then a new shoot also came up and is growing well. I am a little concerned about the roots and not sure what to do. My other concern is the the leaves are quite big and when the new shoot flowers I am worried that the weight of the leaves will tip the plant and cause the new shoot to break. Any advice would be gratefully received. many thanks in advance
