Probably treatable, but the leaves may not look so good for a while. You might try a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol and wipe at the spots. Sounds like bugs, mites probably(maybe snails or slugs?)but it could also be something else. Can you get a pic? I would take it and soak the plant in water up to the top of the medium (some of the medium will float) and leave it for a few hours and see if you get any floaters. You can go to the pest and disease section, there is a lot of info there. Start with the posts marked with stickies.
