Mine was in the growing phase
To show you, here is a picture of me holding the spike where it should have been and then it removed from where it snapped.
Mine set off another "sub spike" from a nodule and is doing fine 
Im sure yours will be too
pictures are a bit big but dont wanna mess with size incase makes too small and cant be seen properly
