I'm personally not all that excited about the aesthetics of subspikes - If you don't remove the broken spikes I'm guessing they will subspike for you. If you cut them completely off you may or may not get another total spike soon - it is somewhat of a gamble - but this would be MY choice. Of course the choice is yours. Let us know how it goes down the road.
