Thanks for your information. I bought my Vanda MJ in a tube from the National Orchids Garden Singapore. Its growth is slow. Three leaves has come up. Now it is in full light. I started giving cow urine yesterday by spraying on the roots. When can i shift it to soil. Which soil is best? We have two types of soil - red and black. I got the problem of snails. As suggested by some of our forum friends I used metaldehyde but I still saw some snails on the coal. Vanda MJ flowers in which season in Singapore?
Waiting for your reply
Thanks - Mani
I was afraid you are going to say that. Don't put into soil yet. Don't give any
full fertilizer. Don't put into full sun yet. You have watch the growth.
You only do all that when it has established itself in the medium you are growing in.
you should
1) Grow it in 50% sunlight
2) put them in a pot with charcoal.(don't use coal)
3) Water with fertilizer 1/3 strength every other day.
-meaning Monday , Wednesday, Friday, followed by Sunday , Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, blah blah blah...
wait till it is about 8 cm in height and the root is sticking onto charcoal.
put it on top of red soil, gradually move into full sunlight
- sterilised the red soil with hot water to kill the snail before putting
plant on it(please allow 1 to 2 hour to cool down the soil)
of course use a small pot of soil in the beginning. As the
plant grow, move it into a bigger pot of soil.
-Dont bury the vanda in the soil. Let the root reach for the soil.In another
words put the plant that has stuck itself on charcoal, on the soil.
Now that you have 3 new leaves ,you condition is good for it. Snail is a
great problem for young plant. They love new shoots and new roots
Protect the young plant from it all. You got to watch young seedling
everyday.
I will post pictures of various stages of Vanda Miss Joaquim growth.
My friend just grow from flask 3 months back. He brought the 40 seedling
bottle from Woon Leng. (the same company that produce your seedling)
The flower bloom year round. Singapore has no season. Only 1 season
- hot day sunny day and hot rainy day.
