| That is the normal new growth that your Den produces each year. It is the life of your plant and should never be cut off. The pattern of growth is a chain of growths, each a year older as you count backwards along the chain. Generally, you should never remove old canes that are less than about 4 years old as they provide a storage for the plants future growth, and many older canes will bloom, with or without leaves.
