Erythrophobia???

I put all but my phals outdoors a little over a week ago and many of the catts and dends are getting significantly RED leaves. I had them under shadecloth for the first 5-6 days and since have removed it. Is this a sign that they are getting too much light/sun? As long as they are not getting sunburn (brown/black) is this going to be a problem? They are on the east side of my house and only get sun till just before noon.
Thanks - mike
