| To a large degree the potential for a flower spike to keiki is genetic. It seems that the species plants are more inclined to keiki than the hybrids - at least that is what it seems with my very limited experience/knowledge. You can use a paste made for this purpose at the nodes to encourage a keiki to form. I've not tried it yet myself but have thought about it. I've also read that if you cut your spike low instead of high - just above a node - you are more likely to get a keiki than a subspike - again, not sure of the accuracy of this statement.
