Examples of growing specimum plants - Redland Show 2006

Growing a specimum plant is mostly an excerecise in parience. the plants do all the work growing to these sizes

Onc sphaceatum was an easy choice for first place even though it is a common orchid. The plant was about 7 feet across and 4 feet high

I love encyclias because of their onion shaped pseudobulb and wonderful fragrance. This green blossomed plant was over 5 feet across. It also took a 1st place in its class.

And one of my favorite plants since I am raising amost 100 of them is Gramm scriptum x elegans. This was about 4 feet acrfoss and too small to win an award. It will get better.

A close up of the flower is in the gallery. The forum limits posts to 4 photos and I have exceeded it.

This family of plants from New Guinea holds claim to the world's largest orchid Gramm speciosum known to grow to 2000 pounds with 7-9 foot flowers sprays
