I re-pot so many Cattleya, that I break more than my share of new growth.

Usually the plant develops new growth within the same season. The plant knows it needs to grow to survive.

I would not bother with root hormone as your roots are good. Just give it good conditions and time.

I am assuming that what you mean by 'growth eyes' are new pseudobulbs. But your description of 'blasting' is unusual in that growth does not normally die except from root damage or infestation. You describe a healthy plant and dead growth. I would keep a close eye on the plant for more damage.
