It would be a great help if you could post a pic of your orchid so we can identify it or at least go to the forum's orchid picture gallery to see if anything there looks like your orchid. Different orchids require different care so knowing what kind of orchid you have will assist the members here in giving you helpful advice.
Flowers don't last forever, not on roses, not on african violets, not on tulips, etc., etc., and not on orchids. So dont' worry about the flowers coming to an end. It's normal. Also if your orchid is growing new growth it's alive. Dead orchids don't grow.
It sounds like you have nothing at all to worry about, but go ahead and post a ic if you can so we can see what we're working with.
