ok with a knife and gentle see if you can scrape the back stuff off.

another way would be to have a rag with a little bit of Methylated Spirits soaked on it and then open the rag so the leaf can be cleaned top and bottom at the same time.

see if that will remove the sopt being soft I think it will.
