Well, one of those who appreciate the sphagnum moss and I got some experience in handling it.(I've never lost one orchid yet!) A tightly packed sphag is a real danger because can suffocate the roots and dry out too slowly...It might happen that some roots are already damaged.I always check the roots a soon as I bring home the new Phal.In my experience if handled carefully, pulling out the whole root ball, the bloom will not suffer at all.So, check the roots, cut off all what is dead, hollow , than re pot in the same pot.Fill up with moss just enough to sustain the plant, not over packed. Doing this, you can prevent a bad surprise, when a beautifully blooming plant suddenly wilt and die. Good luck
