I like bark mix for Cattleya although I was hydroponic rocks on many of my 6-8 inch pot.

Paphs want to be moist all the time and they do not like stale medium. Re-potting Paphs once or twice a year is recommended. They will begin to deteriorate long before the medium goes bad. Mediums can vary although a fine bark mix is most common. I plant many hydroponically in glass vases but I do not recommend everyone run out and re-pot this way.
