Thank You Thank You Mayres for starting this thread! It can be such a confusing subject, especially when most of us are growing orchids in conditions that, according to 'the books' should not be possible. I have 9 phals in a southern window that receive 50-60 footcandles 5 feet from the window. Like growing them in a closet, right? But they haven't died, I have new roots, leaves, and spikes. Go figure....if I had not purchased that light meter I would not be in such a panic to go out and buy an expensive light set-up!
