A new vanda question.

I have a vanda that I potted in December. It came as a bare root plant and so planted it as fast as I could into a pot with spaghnum moss. It had been looking fairly healthy until recently. The leaves are beginning to have that elephant skin/ leathery look and almost shrivally look. I have ordered some baskets that I will transplant into as soon as they arrive. I think I will use a medium bark mix when I do transplant it. Or would you stay with the spaghnum moss?
I think I am not doing well with the spaghnum moss. Although it is very dry, I think the moss retains more fluid than I realize.
Any thoughs or suggestions. Winterwhite
