I live in New Jersey and it's winter here. I have my oncidium in a cool west window right now. As Arleneg says, they need slightly less light than a cattleya, but much more than a phal. I find the oncidium likes lots of water. In the winter I water it twice a week, in the summer outdoors a lot more often. If you see accordian pleated leaves, give it more water.
